On Rotation: My Mascara Stash

Hello everyone!  Today I want to share what I currently have on rotation in my mascara stash. Before I do that, however,  I want to share with you my thoughts on blogging. There are numerous ideas that I have about the content that I want to write about. I want to be as thorough as possible, and realize that this will require dedicated time. I don’t want to simply create a post just for the sake of having some sort of content.  I want to take my time so that it has substance. So please bear with me as I’m still learning how to navigate this ‘space’. With that being said, let’s get to it!

Lancome’s Hypnose Drama

I fell in love with this mascara the first time I ever used it. It has a unique S-shaped curve brush which hugs my lashes quite nicely.  It promises full body and high volume, and it delivers. My lashes are naturally quite thin and short and it gives me the extra fullness that I need to complete my everyday eye look. It gives my lashes immediate volume and coats my lashes without clumping or feeling too heavy. The formula is creamy and glides on easily. It lasts throughout the day and doesn’t flake. Another benefit is that it’s also fragrance free. I wear contact lenses on an everyday basis, and I have found that it doesn’t irritate my eyes.

I have also used it in combination with the Lancome Cils Booster XL Mascara Primer  . This primer is enriched with vitamin E.  I feel that it not only helps to condition my lashes, but also helps to provide a base for added thickness. I have found that it is easy to use in conjunction with one another. I apply one coat of the Cils Booster Mascara primer by starting at the base and working up. I can immediately follow it with a coat of mascara and build up until I get the desired volume. It’s a mascara that I would definitely repurchase.

Lorac’s Pro Mascara

This mascara is great for lengthening and definition. The jumbo brush (pictured above) allows me to coat my lashes from root to tip very easily. It defines and separates my lashes quite nicely. The formula is not too thick and it stays put. It does not budge throughout the day nor does it irritate my eyes. However, I wish the color payoff was more intense. I like my mascara deep, dark and of the carbon-black variety.

The mascara also has a narrow tip which allows me to coat the inner corners quite easily. This is great choice for those of you who want length, definition and lift.

Marc Jacobs Beauty O! Mega Lash Volumizing Mascara

Let’s start with the packaging. So luxurious. So chic. So Marc Jacobs Beauty. The packaging from this line consistently delivers. And so does the performance of its products. This mascara is great for volume, definition, and length. The wand may look quite ordinary and mediocre, however the the wand itself is an advanced dual-brush design that is created for the purpose of both lash separation and volume. It is a water based formula that is of the carbon black variety that I like.  It applies very easily and the formula does not clump. I can keep adding more coats as desired without getting a “spidery” lash appearance. It leaves a deep black pigment that makes my eyes look more defined and open and has staying power.

I discovered the mascara while trying out a sample and I’ve become quite fond of it. This is yet another mascara that is in the “will repurchase again” category.

Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara

Benefit truly knocked it out of the park with this one! Ever since its launch in 2012, this mascara quickly rose to best seller status. I was working part time for Sephora at the time of its launch and saw first hand how much clients loved it. It is another mascara that I have found that truly delivers. The key to its performance lies in its design. The brush features staggered bristles that grab close to the root, allowing it to produce great length and volume. The domed tip also helps me to precisely define my lower lashes with ease. The formula is not as creamy nor as jet-black as I desire, however it still does a stellar job.

I can apply a few coats and build volume as desired without the mascara clumping. It has great lasting power. This is for you if you want an all around, does- it- all type of mascara.

Dior Diorshow Mascara

This mascara is a classic. The one pictured above is the renewed version of the mascara that launched recently that I purchased to try.
The description of this new formula via the website:

The new Diorshow formula for 2015 is Enriched with revolutionary microfibers that cling between lashes to thicken naturally without clumping. Its incredibly versatile wax texture coats lashes with each stroke of the brush for buildable volume, while the formula’s lash-care action helps smooth lashes for even more spectacular shape, coverage, and volume. The patented Air-Lock™ wiper prevents the formula from being in contact with the air, keeping the mascara from drying in the tube, thereby allowing for fresh application day after day.”

Quite honestly, I haven’t noticed a great difference between this new and improved version and the older one. This mascara performs well throughout the day and I have found that it helps to lengthen, define and volumize my lashes. It doesn’t clump and certainly will remain a staple in my stash.

E.L.F. 3-in-1 Mascara

Last but not least, E.l.f. Cosmetics’ 3-in-1 mascara.  This is a budget friendly mascara that has a unique rounded tip that helps to separate, lengthen, and thicken my upper and lower lashes with ease. E.L.F. cosmetics is one of my favorite drugstore brands. I typically peruse the beauty aisle at my local store to see if there’s anything new when I pay a visit. I have purchased many of their products. It is not only affordable, but accessible.

What I particularly like about this mascara aside from the brush is its ability to separate my lashes and give it definition. The formula is not as intense as I desire, however when layered it helps to achieve a very full and precisely defined look.

I hope you found this informative. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Dom

P.S. I was recently gifted with these mascaras from Yves St. Laurent and Giorgio Armani and I’m excited to add them to my stash. I hope to fill you in on its performance later.
