Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Compact Review

Giorgio Armani Beauty’s latest offering is their Luminous Silk compact, a dual use powder compact with a double sided applicator which allows one to build coverage from a translucent, sheer finish to a light foundation. It comes in a range of 8 colors and is aptly named after one of their award winning foundations, the Luminous Silk Foundation. The Luminous Silk foundation is a lightweight foundation that is widely popular for delivering a luminous, natural finish on the skin. The powder features a patented “micro silk” technology which it claims allows for a very lightweight base with 3 anti-dullness, mattifying and blurring fillers.

The compact comes in a mirrored, round and sleek black case with a beige base that opens to a dual-sided sponge. The powder itself is embossed with the Giorgio Armani logo. Per the instructions included, the powder can be applied in two ways. First, the beige side of the powder sponge can be used for a silky, translucent finish. Second, the black side of the powder sponge can be used to achieve a more lightweight foundation finish.

Here is a description of the product via the website:

This innovative formula with micro-silk technology offers a luminous matte finish, long-lasting wear and seamless buildable coverage. The dual-use applicator gives a versatile makeup result—the beige side to set and perfect your Luminous Silk Foundation or the black side for a lightweight foundation finish. Luminous Silk now available on the go.

For the purpose of my review, I have been using the compact powder only as a light setting powder on top of my foundation. I purchased the compact in the shade 5.5 which is described as a natural beige. For reference, I am in the shade NW 35 in MAC and No.5.75 in the Luminous Silk Foundation. To the touch, the powder is very silky and finely milled. It is very sheer and has an almost imperceptible finish, which is precisely what I was looking for in a setting powder. I used the beige side of the dual sided sponge to lightly pat and set areas after applying my foundation and concealer. I have also used it in combination with  my Sephora Pro Airbrush powder #55 and it works wonderfully. It feels very silky, lightweight and performs well throughout the day.

Bottom Line: I am impressed with the Luminous Silk Powder compact.  Not only is it finely milled, it feels very silky, lightweight and provides very sheer, soft, and build able coverage. It helps to mattify areas where I want to reduce shine and helps me touch up on the go. If you’re looking for a natural, translucent powder that is portable, this is the perfect companion.

The Luminous Silk Powder retails for $62 and can be currently found at Nordstrom or on their website.

Thank you for stopping by today.
