Today I wanted to share my picks fromMAC’s Haute Dogs Collection. I was going to pass on the collection all together, which feature a range of mostly neutral buttery shades. Nothing really stood out to me. That is until I realized that two of my most loved shaping and sculpting powders were available in a compact single pot in packaging similar to the size of MAC blushes. I picked up the shaping powder in the color Lightsweep and the Sculpting powder in the color Shadester. Although these two colors are part of their permanent line, they were only available prior to this release in the pro palette size. Several years back, these powders were released in a compact duo. It was one of my favorite powder duos that I used at the time. This was before contouring stormed the mainstream. When MAC discontinued the duo compact, I was quite saddened. I hope that MAC cosmetics will consider bringing back the duo powders because I think there would definitely be a demand for it. Read below for my picks and product descriptions via MAC’s official website. UPDATE: The Sculpt and Shape Duo Powders are now available for a limited time via the MACnificent ME! collection. See image below.
Shadester: A powder that sculpts contours into the face, enhancing natural bone structure. Color: Mid tone leathery brown
Lightsweep: A micro-fine powder that accents and emphasizes the high planes of the face. Color: Warm beige with fine pearl
Duo Fibre Face Glider brush #161: Featuring blonde natural bristles and white synthetic fibres, this angled medium-sized brush delicately glides over the face to apply the lightest layers of contour. The blend of fibres allows for the soft, easily dispersed application of powders.
Shadester was quite difficult to hunt down in stores. I visited several MAC Pro locations before finding one available at the MAC Pro store at the Grove in LA. It retails originally for $22. With my Pro discount, I was able to purchase it for around $13. What I like about Shadester is that it is a warm medium brown tone that is perfectly matte to define and sculpt my features. It’s a beautiful warm brown that I can even use for eyeshadow if I so desire. I am going to purchase a back up of this shade from their website, before it’s all sold out!
Lightsweep contains pearlized pigments which beautifully highlights the high planes of the face. It’s an ideal shade that is suitable for most, if not all skin tones. According to MAC’s official description of the powder, it’s formulated with a “soft-focus technology that helps to accent and emphasize your features.” All fancy wording aside, I think this particular shade is a must have for your makeup stash. It subtly highlights the high points of my face without being overly done. It’s a cross between both worlds of shimmer and matte. I would describe it as the color you choose for your highlight when you want your features to be enhanced beautifully, yet subtly. When I want that intense glow or highlight, I can leave that to MAC’s Soft and Gentle or my most recently acquired illuminators from Anastasia Beverly Hills. You can read my first impressions of the illuminators here.
Finally, I picked up their Duo Fibre brush in #161 after trying it in store. The slanted shape hugs to the contours of my face quite nicely. It picks up product well and spreads it evenly. Its functionality and quality is what I’d expect from MAC’s range of professional brushes.
Pictured above is an assortment of some of my well loved and well used MAC Cosmetics products.
Overall, I am pleased with what I purchased from MAC’s Haute Dog Collection. These items are a welcome addition because they are practical for everyday use and I love that these powders are now compact enough to fit in my makeup bag. Did you pick up anything from this line?
Thank you for stopping by.
