Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No. 1 Lipstick and Brown Blush Eyeshadow Quad Review

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share my recent picks from Dolce Gabbana Beauty. I was recently in San Francisco, and while there, I visited the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Union Square. To my surprise, I found a Dolce & Gabbana Beauty boutique inside. There are very few locations that sell Dolce & Gabbana makeup in general. In fact, the last time I was able to shop for Dolce & Gabbana Beauty products in-store was while visiting the Sephora Times Square location in New York earlier this year.

I picked up the Dolce & Gabbana Eyeshadow Quad in Brown Blush and the newly released Sophia Loren Lipstick No. 1 (It’s My Red) along with the Monica Voluptuous Lipstick in Gentle Monica. Scroll below for more product images and information.

The newly released Dolce & Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Brown Blush offers a combination of matte and shimmery hues. I am always drawn to to neutral brown colors and after swatching several quads that they had available at the boutique, I finally decided on this one. Read below for the official description via Dolce Gabbana’s website:

VERDICT:

During my first trial run with the product I wore the eyeshadow dry and used my Urban Decay eye primer as a base. The shadows are richly pigmented and the texture is smooth and creamy. It blends beautifully and I did not experience any fall out. It only takes a tiny bit to build the intensity that I desire.  I used the lightest vanilla hued shade on my brow bone, the cocoa brown shade all over my lid and a bit of the deep mahogany shade in my crease. The shadow lasted throughout my work day (7.5 hours) and did not crease or fade. I used the quad the following day and through continuous wear, it continued to perform well. I am impressed with the ease,  blendability, and pigmentation of the Dolce & Gabbana Eye Colour Quad and I  am eager to put this beautiful quad on rotation this Fall.

Dolce & Gabbana recently released a tribute to  Sophia Loren, an iconic Italian screen siren by creating her signature shade in the color Sophia Loren No. 1. It’s a limited edition item that is housed in a sophisticated gold tube complete with her signature stamped on the case. It was available for purchase at the boutique that day and I pretty much purchased it on a whim, knowing that it would be a limited edition release. Here’s an official description of the product via Dolce and Gabbana’s website:

PRODUCT DETAILS

More than just a lipstick, Sophia Loren N°1 is a loving tribute from Dolce&Gabbana to Sophia and all women. The colour makes it truly unique: a bright cherry red created by the Designers with Sophia Loren to enhance the deep pigmentation of her lips. It’s her red, it’s her signature.

BENEFITS
– Ultra-light, semi-sheer lipstick

– Bright cherry red created by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana with Sophia Loren

– Skin conditioning ingredients add moisture and a rich, glossy shine

– Delicately scented with Dolce&Gabbana’s signature powdery rose fragrance

–  Engraved in black with Sophia Loren’s signature

VERDICT:

Although the color is officially described as a bright, cherry red, I would beg to differ. In my estimation, the color is more of a muted pinky -toned red. I would describe it as a natural red that is neither too provocative nor subdued. It really is a beautiful color that would be suitable on most, if not all skin tones. For this reason, I feel this particular lipstick shade is universally appealing. It glides on smoothly with no tugging on the lips. The lipstick is also officially described as a semi-sheer lipstick, though I think it is more opaque. (See swatches below)  I wore the color continuously two days in a row and it felt hydrating, lightweight, and non-sticky. Additionally, it provided medium coverage with a little bit of shine. The lipstick provided 4 hours of comfortable wear. It is not as long lasting as some of the other lipstick brands that I own. After eating and/or drinking, I had to reapply the color as it transferred off my lips. This does not detract from it’s overall performance, however, and this limited one- of- a kind shade is just too gorgeous to pass up. It’s a beautiful everyday color that I feel you can wear from day to evening.

I also picked up the Monica Voluptuous Lipstick in the color Gentle Monica, which is inspired and named after Italian beauty Monica Bellucci. The sales associate mentioned that the lipsticks were going to be phased out soon. I could not find anything online to verify this information, however the Monica Voluptuous Lipsticks are no longer listed on Dolce and Gabbana’s official website if that’s any indication. I chose the color Gentle Monica which I would describe as a coral rose tone. This lipstick provided medium coverage in a somewhat satin finish, much like the finish of the Sophia Loren lipstick reviewed above. It also provided a creamy texture that glided on very easily without tugging. It’s a beautiful shade that is quite similar to another favorite of mine, Marc Jacobs New Nudes lipstick in the color Eat Cake. Perhaps I was drawn to this shade for this reason.

Overall, I am pleased with my new Dolce and Gabbana purchases for Fall. They met my expectations in terms of overall performance and you will definitely see these items on my makeup of the day posts on my Instagram. Thank you for stopping by today. What other Dolce and Gabbana makeup would you recommended?
