Francois Nars recently teamed up with famed fashion photographer Steven Klein to create a limited edition holiday release of the aptly named Fantascene collection. The makeup items released in this collection feature bold colors and edgy, provocative, visually appealing imagery that is described as an exquisite fantasy played to the extremes. The collection features an array of gorgeous colors for the eyes, face, and nails and is uniquely and exquisitely packaged, no less. This much anticipated release finally became available online and inside Nars boutiques. I purchased the One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette as soon as it was released on Sephora's website and was fortunately gifted the Abnormal Female Set. This limited edition release is definitely worth checking out as it contains items that are a great value and would make excellent gifts for the upcoming holiday season. Kindly scroll below for details.
First up is the NARS Shocking Moment Cheek Studio palette. The palette contains a highlighting and contouring duo, a bronzer and four blushes, two of which are new and exclusive to the palette, while all the other colors included are part of their permanent range. The set is housed in a very sturdy, sleek, and travel- friendly compact that includes a huge mirror inside.
The set includes:
- Contour/Highlight Duo in Paloma (I), Paloma (II) 2 x 0.12 oz
- Bronzing Powder in Laguna 0.29 oz
- Blush in Robotic (exclusive), Blaspemy (exclusive), Luster, & Dolce Vita 4 x 0.12 oz
One concern that I have about holiday collections in general is that the quality of the palettes may be sub par compared to the regularly offered assortment from the brand. This is not the case here, as each of the colors swatched easily and were pigmented and easy to blend. Because I do not own any of the colors in this set, with the exception of the cult favorite Laguna, it was an exceptionally enticing purchase. The two popular blush colors contained in the set--Dolce Vita & Luster---practically had me sold. I was also happy that the contour duo was included for the first time. I have been a fan of Nars' blush products for quite some time now. I have a couple of their other blush palettes such as the Danmari and Guy Bourdin palettes and this is yet another beautiful addition to my collection. It is an incredible value, and contains an excellent assortment of colors for the face. Contour and highlight? Check. Blush? Check. Bronzer? Check. This versatile mix of beautiful shades makes it an all-in- one palette that is convenient on- the- go. I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend it. The One Shocking Moment Studio Cheek palette retails for $69 USD.
Next up is the An Abnormal Female Bullet Lip Pencil Set. The set contains a beautiful range of Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. Here's an official description from NARS's website:
Bite the bullet. Three, two, one—Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. A triple-threat of arresting color, daring long-wear, and instant precision in a range of shades that hit the spot. Weapons of seduction.
This set Includes:
Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
413 BLKR Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
The Abnormal Female set includes 3 Velvet Matte Colors, two of which are part of their permanent range (Dragon Girl & Sex Machine) while one color, 413 Blkr is sold exclusively at NARS boutiques. The velvet lip trio is housed in a red and gold bullet shaped package. The packaging was inspired by one of Steven Klein's personal effects. On set during the shoot, Mr. Klein used a bullet shaped lighter that was the inspiration behind the packaging. In my opinion, the packaging for this set takes center stage in the sea of other Nars X Steven Klein pieces. You simply can't miss it---it stands out! The colors contained in this set are distinctly beautiful. The colors provide an opaque semi matte finish and glide on easily. I've always liked the ease of use of the Nars lip pencils. It's virtually fool proof, because you can easily line your lips with precision and build it to the desired intensity. The lip pencils generally feel very comfortable on my lips and last for about 4-5 hours. Since I do not currently own these colors individually, I was happy to receive the colors contained in this set. If you prefer to select colors individually, this perhaps is not the set for you. I happen to really like the color selection. The metallic bullet packaging is an added bonus and perhaps in the future, it will serve as some interesting conversation fodder. The Abnormal Female lip set is sold exclusively online and inside NARS boutiques only and retails for $65. The bold colors, alluring packaging, and edgy imagery certainly sets it apart from other holiday releases and it has quickly become one of the most memorable NARS LE releases to date.
