Marc Jacobs Beauty recently launched a line of mascara as part of their Velvet Noir Lash Couture collection. It includes three mascaras that can be worn alone or paired together to achieve your desired look. I am an avid fan of their O’ Mega Lash Volumizing mascara. ($26) It comes in the carbon black variety that I like and delivers volume and definition where I need it most, so I eagerly anticipated the launch of the collection. I picked up two of the mascaras from the line, their Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara and the Feather Noir Ultra-Skinny Lash Discovery Mascara. I’ve regularly used both in my rotation for over a month now, so today I’d like to share my thoughts on them complete with a before and after image. Kindly scroll below for details.
MARC JACOBS VELVET NOIR MAJOR VOLUME MASCARA
Let’s first start with the packaging. The packaging is luxurious and it is contained in a flat square shaped tube that prominently features the Marc Jacobs logo on the front. The curved shaped, hourglass- like brush is designed to create the most volume at the center of the lash line and helps to define the tips for length and volume. It also boasts 1800% more volume in three strokes according to an independent research study. Although I cannot quantify whether or not using the mascara produced 1800% percent volume on my lashes, I must stay that this mascara delivers! It provides undeniable volume and length, without the clumpiness. I do like the wand because it hugs my lashes quite nicely and helps to produce some curl. I prefer mascaras in the carbon black variety and this one delivers that and more. The pigment is super black and I can immediately see a difference once the mascara is applied. My lashes are naturally quite thin and short and it gives me the extra fullness that I need to complete my everyday eye look. I’d like to finally add that I am also a contact lens wearer. My eyes are quite sensitive and I am happy to report that it does not cause any irritation nor does it flake during the day, another major plus. Pictured below is the wand up close.
FEATHER NOIR ULTRA SKINNY LASH DISCOVERY MASCARA
I also picked up the Feather Noir mascara. The tiny, ultra skinny brush really intrigued me. The ultra skinny brush was inspired by the plush feel of feathers and and it is designed to coat the tiniest lashes from top to bottom and root to tip. The tube reminds me of a deluxe size mascara and really does feel light as a feather in your hands. The formula is light weight and is not as thick as the Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara. It applied easily and evenly. Initially, I was not wowed by it. It helped to separate and define my lower lashes but it did not seem to produce the desired intensity as I had with my upper lashes. Then, I read that you can layer the mascaras. The next time around, I used the Velvet Noir Major Lash Mascara first, and followed up with the Feather Noir to separate and define my lashes and voila–just the look I was aiming for. It literally captured every single lash, and as a result, produced voluminously long, beautiful lashes. The wand helps to precisely separate and define my upper and lower lashes. I can build it up until I get the desired volume and it does not clump. I feel that both products work really well in conjunction with one another. Pictured below is the wand up close.

VERDICT
The mascaras from MJB’s newly released Velvet Noir Couture Lash Collection truly deliver. I am impressed with the formula, and each wand’s unique design, resulting in coating my lashes completely from root to tip. It produces beautifully full, voluminously thick lashes resulting in nicely defined eyes. Both items are currently available at Sephora and the Marc Jacobs Beauty website.
