Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation Review

Is it Magic? Or is it foundation?

Charlotte Tilbury’s latest release was five years in the making, called the Magic Foundation, it is described as a new generation of anti-aging , full coverage, second skin foundation that morphs your face in a weightless texture and lasts all day. The foundation is available in 15 shades to match a varied range of tones. I have used the foundation in my rotation for a few months now. My beautiful friend Sandy who lives in the UK kindly sent it over as a gift. The foundation is slated to release in the US very soon, and today I’d like to share my thoughts and overall review.

“Problem skin transforms into perfect looking skin before your very eyes. The hyper-intelligent formula dispenses evenly over your skin and does not sit in imperfections. Magic Foundation is a miracle in a bottle that transforms every skin type into flawless, poreless perfection.”–via Charlottetilbury.com

Key Ingredients:

(via Charlotte Tilbury’s website)

  • Laricyl: This is a concentrated mushroom extract. Benefits: It improves skin firmness, magically tightens pores, floods the skin with moisture
  • Hyaluronic Filling Spheres: These genius spheres fill with moisture as they are absorbed into the skin, plumping the skin with water, reversing wrinkle grooves.
  • Supercharged Vitamin C (VC-IP): This brand-new skin hero ingredient has been tested clinically in several In-Vivo tests and is the first time it is integrated into a foundation. Vitamin C is a well-known anti-oxidant that revives skin for a glowing, lit-from-within complexion.

Packaging & Claims:

Charlotte Tilbury products come in undeniably beautiful packaging and the Magic Foundation is no exception. The foundation is housed in a frosted glass bottle with a rose gold top complete with a cream colored band which gives it a very chic and sophisticated look. It also features a pump top which I’ve found to easily dispense just the right amount of product. The formula claims to dispense evenly over your skin, helping to create long lasting flawless coverage whether you suffer from acne, redness, discoloration or tired and dull skin. It also claims to have all day staying power.

Application:

For reference I am in the shade #7, a light medium beige which suits my medium golden skin tone perfectly. I also recently received a deluxe sample of the Wonder Glow Instant Soft Focus Beauty Flash Primer. It is described as a complexion-enhancing light diffuser. I always use primer before foundation because it helps to smooth out my skin and extend makeup wear. The primer feels very lightweight to the touch and helps to provide a boost of radiance and luminosity to my skin. I follow up with the foundation, which feels very smooth and provides pigmented, medium coverage. I dispense a couple of pumps to the back of my hand and use a foundation brush to buff it onto my face. I tend to have redness around the sides of my nose and cheeks and it blends seamlessly and helps to immediately even out my skin tone. Though it provides medium coverage, I can still add more coverage, if desired. It is buildable and still looks very natural, which is a huge plus.

Wear & Feel

It feels very comfortable on my skin and on me, provides a semi-matte finish. It did not settle into any fine lines nor did it separate or transfer. It also provided long lasting coverage through out the day that lasted through my 8 hour work shift. Another plus.

Verdict:

I’m very impressed by the coverage it provides and how well it holds throughout the day. It is easily buildable and delivers beautifully without the heavy look or feel of full coverage makeup. Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation is indeed a foundation that provides brilliant coverage and with a host of beneficial ingredients in the making of its formula, it’s safe to say there are elements of “magic” within.  If you are looking for a foundation that helps to perfect the skin without being overly matte or dewy, this is definitely worth a try.
