Tom Ford Summer Soleil Collection 2016: The Afternooner, Pieno Sole Bronzer, Moisture Core Lipsticks

Alas, the Tom Ford Summer Soleil collection for 2016 is here. All the colors within the collection capture the essence of summer, with luminous, golden bronze shades and shimmery pinks. Housed in its beautiful luxurious gold and ivory packaging, the collection this year contains both new additions as well as repromotes from last year. Today I will be sharing the products that I picked out from this year’s collection along with swatches and my overall recommendations. So let’s get started, shall we?

Some new additions to my Tom Ford Summer Soleil collection from last year. Can you spot them?
Some new additions to my Tom Ford Summer Soleil collection from last year. Can you spot them?

“A sensuous series of bronzers, highlighters and skincare designed to illuminate summer skin throughout the year.”

First up is the debut of The Afternooner, which features three sensual summer shades in one limited edition compact. The compact is quite sizable (it’s the same size as their Eye and Cheek Compact from last year) It contains a blush, highlighter, and bronzer in a cream like powder formula that effortlessly glides onto the skin. Beautifully textured, the shades can be worn together or alone, and can be layered to achieve your desired intensity.

The Afternooner Nude (highlight) / Coral (blush) bronze (contour)

All of the colors swatched beautifully and are simply stunning and complementary. The nude highlighter provides a soft, luminous sheen, while the coral blush provides a healthy flush of colors on the cheeks. The bronzer is a warm medium tan, and it is neither too dark nor light on my medium golden complexion. It suits me beautifully and I honestly think that this is the star of this year’s Summer Soleil Collection. If I had to choose only one item, this would be it!  Swatches to follow below.

Moving onto my lipstick picks. There are two new offerings this season, the Ultra Rich Lip Color and the Moisture Core Lip color. The Moisture Core lip colors really piqued my interest once I started seeing it circulate online. They are officially described as two innovative formulas in one lip product. The center core is infused with passion fruit oil and an exotic blend of melon fruit extract, and murumuru butter to help condition the lips while the outer casing is made of a luminous, shimmery lip color with a pop of pink throughout every Moisture Core Lip Color shade.

Mustique (to the left) and  Pipa (to the right)

Pipa (Rosy Coral)

Mustique (Rosy Mauve)

Although it contains a sheer formulation, on me it provided semi-opaque coverage, and I was delightfully surprised with the longevity of wear with these new additions. On me it lasted for a good four hours without eating or drinking. Mustique, a rosy mauve in the moisture core lipstick not only feels incredibly moisturizing as its namesake implies but also provides such a gloriously beautiful wash of shimmery, soft color on the lips. I am completely enamored with this shade. In every way, it is perfectly complementary to sun kissed summer skin. Swatches to follow below.

I picked up two bronzers in the cream and powdered formula. Pineo Sole is a limited cream bronzer compact that is officially described as “an oil-free cream blush to instantly brighten up the face with a natural -looking wash of color.” Last year, I purchased the cream cheek color in Pink Sand which I still use to this day, so I excitedly anticipated the release of its bronzer counterpart. The cream cheek color in Pineo Sole is absolutely beautiful. It’s a medium golden bronze shade that gives just the right amount of sun-kissed shimmer. I dip into a little bit of it with a small stippling brush right after applying my foundation. A little goes a long way, so if you’re heavy handed, I would recommend apply a little bit with clean fingers. When blended, it leaves a very gorgeous, radiant, and lustrous finish.

Above is an image of the Cream Cheek Color in Pink Sand which is available this year as a repromote of last year’s Soleil Collection.

Finally, I picked up the bronzer in Gold Dust, $68which is a mini version of their larger offering which retails for $95 and a repromote from last year. It’s the perfect size and ideal for travel because it can fit quite nicely into your makeup bag. This year, it has the Tom Ford embossing in the center which gives it a nice touch. I shattered the one I purchased last year, an unfortunate makeup mishap, and this purchase was made as a replacement. It’s described as a soft bronze with a dusting of fine, gold shimmer. This color complements my yellow undertones very well. It feels very silky upon application, and it’s completely buildable. The beautiful golden shimmer it imparts is quite unique to other bronzers in my stash and I quite like it. Swatches to follow below.

L-R: Gold Dust, Pineo Sole, Pink Sand

My top picks from the collection includes The Afternooner, not only because of its limited edition wow factor, but because the shades are perfectly complementary. The palette is quite sizable and can be used all year round for sun kissed radiance. I also think Tom Ford’s  cream cheek offerings this year are worth a try. They blend in beautifully and naturally and provide a gorgeous lustrous finish the skin. These are my top picks, though I would have it all, if my budget allowed! Below is an image of the products in action, taken from my Snap chat. You can find me @cali_beaute.
