Currently trending in beauty for 2016 is the launch of many color correcting products to address various complexion concerns. This concept is not something new and has been around for quite some time, however, it seems to have hit the beauty mainstream this year as nearly every major makeup brand has offerings available at this moment.
Algenist, a biotechnology brand known for their range of skincare has now made their debut into the area of color, launching their REVEAL Collection,* a makeup line utilizing a multitude of microalgae based species to color correct and improve skin’s tone and radiance. This year Algenist introduces four color correcting drops to treat uneven skin tone:
Green Color Correcting Drops: green microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize redness.
Apricot Color Correcting Drops: golden microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize dark, discolored skin.
Blue Color Correcting Drops: blue microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize sallow skin.
Pink Color Correcting Drops: red microalgae and pigments work in synergy to color correct and neutralize tired dull-looking skin.
The Algenist Color Correcting Drops retail for $38 each. The drops can be used alone or added into makeup and skincare products. Each color corrector is packaged in a frosted bottle complete with a dropper. The formula is very fluid and lightweight and I would say that it feels very similar to applying a serum. So far, I have used the Apricot shade underneath my eye area to help reduce the appearance of dark circles and the Green drops around the area of my nose to neutralize the redness. I follow up with a damp beauty blender to blend. I immediately see a noticeable difference as it helps to correct and neutralize the problem areas. I have not yet mixed the drops with my moisturizer though I have applied my foundation and concealer immediately after using the concentrated drops. I feel that the drops help to balance and even out my skin tone and it does not feel cakey whatsoever when layered which is a huge plus .Swatches to follow below.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a product that is lightweight, easy to use and will help to treat and and cover skin imperfections, this might work for you. Each bottle is moderately pricy at $38, however keep in mind you are receiving a product that is equal parts makeup and a skincare treatment, helping you to achieve a more even skin tone and texture. Other options or alternatives are color correcting concealers.
