Christian Louboutin Loubilaque Lip Lacquer: Altareva, Bengali, Rouge Louboutin Swatches and First Impressions

Christian Louboutin’s latest beauty creation draws inspiration from his long-standing love affair with lacquer.  Introducing Loubilaque ($85), a high coverage, highly pigmented lip lacquer that combines intense color and shine in a liquid formula.  There are eight shades available ranging from nudes to brights including the brand’s iconic Rouge Louboutin. I was very pleased with my purchase of the Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Lipsticks in the matte and silky stain formula, reviewed here, and picked up a total of three Loubilaque shades that I will be sharing with you today.

First, let’s talk about packaging. It’s absolutely stunning! The bottle is designed in see through packaging and is carved with an intricate mermaid tail pattern to encapsulate the color like an elixir. Each Loubilaque lip lacquer comes encased in a jewelry like box, with a hand stiched silk carrying pouch and a silk ribbon, which can be also worn around your neck. I don’t plan on ever doing that as it is too ostentatious for my taste, however the packaging alone is a stunner and definitely makes it a one of kind collector’s piece.

The three shades I purchased, (pictured L-R):

Altareva -a mid tone nude pink

Rouge Louboutin-vibrant deep red

Bengali-fuschia pink

  • Formulated with advanced pigment technology, Loubilaque delivers a patent-leather shine and full bodied, true color in just one coat.
  • Non-sticky and exceptionally comfortable on lips imparting highly dimensional shine and long-lasting color
  • Special ingredients improve hydration and reduce furrows on lips, for optimal cushion and comfort
  • Specially designed doe foot applicator for sensual pleasure with a highly precise and effortless application.
  • Teardrop shape applicator combines both a flat surface for optimal dispersion and pointed shape to allow precision of contour
  • Presented in a re-usable black lacquer carton jewelry box including a silk ribbon and a silk carrying pouch.

Upon twisting open the bottle, the first thing I noticed is the scent. It is very strong and if you are extremely sensitive to scents this will not be for you. The scent is much like the scent of the Louboutin lipsticks, a scent that reminds me of roses. Each shade glides on beautifully, providing an intense wash of highly pigmented color with one swipe (see swatches below) I found that the pointed doe foot applicator helped me to apply each color with precision and the color is not sticky whatsoever. It feels plush and cushiony, enveloping my lips with a high shine finish.

In terms of longevity, it will last up to 4-5 hours and will require reapplication after a meal. Keep in mind that it is gloss, not a liquid lipstick, so it does not dry down. Rather, the finish is a high shine satin finish. I found that I could also top the Loubilaque Lip Lacquers over lipstick and it looks phenomenal. Swatches to follow below.

Bottom line, the Louboutin Loubilaque Lip Lacquers are absolutely stunning and quite opulent and what’s inside will not disappoint. There exists a range of shades that can suit any makeup lover or makeup mood. It does, however, come with a hefty price tag at $85 each. It is created by no other than fashion designer Christian Louboutin, so that reflects the cost. Is this a must? Absolutely not. If you are a makeup collector and junkie like me, however, it is something though worth considering.

The Loubilaque Lip Lacquers are now available on their official website and online at Sephora.com.
