Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light Palette: First Look and First Impressions

Update: Currently out of stock at Sephora, but available here at Nordstrom. As soon as the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light Palette was available online, I promptly purchased it. I am a huge fan of their luxury line of makeup products. I’ve purchased every limited edition face palette to date and once I saw a sneak peek of this item online and the shades contained within, I knew I had to have it. Today I’ll be sharing with you a first look of the palette along with swatches and my first impressions.

Retailing at $8o, the palette comes dressed up in stunning matte marbled white packaging with the Hourglass logo etched in gold lettering on the front. It’s a sizable, yet still perfectly portable compact. It is quite a sight to behold and looks stunning to display on your vanity. The colors contained within, some of which also feature a marbled like pattern are some never before seen shades.

The Hourglass Ambient Edit Surreal Light Palette contains 1 finishing powder in Surreal Light, 2 blushes in Surreal Glow and Surreal Effect, 1 Bronzer in Surreal Bronze Light and one strobe powder in Surreal Strobe Light. Founder Carisa Janes wanted to create what she called the coveted lighting magic hour, where the light is warm and soft at the same time, and makes everyone look so good, details via Sephora.

Shade Descriptions:

Ambient Lighting Powder in Surreal Light (sheer nude) -large pan
Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Surreal Bronze Light (neutral tan with Surreal Light) -bottom left
Ambient Lighting Blushes in Surreal Glow (pale peony pink with Surreal Light)-top left  & Surreal Effect (cool, pink rose with soft, warm peach) -top right
Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Surreal Strobe Light (glimmering peach) -bottom right

Here’s a side by side comparison of last year’s holiday release along with this year’s palette. While last year’s palette contained many shades that could already be found in Hourglass’ available offerings from their permanent line, this years edition features unique, never seen before shades which, in my opinion, make it more covetable and adds to their limited edition holiday appeal.

The powders contained within are  multi-purpose and claim to be great for all skin types, while helping to bring about a soft, flattering glow to the complexion. I have found that the powders contained within bring a very soft, not too over the top lit from within glow that I’ve come to love. Fear not if you are a medium toned gal and worry it may not appear on your skin. It leaves a very subtle soft flush of color on my cheeks. I like to use the finishing powder all over for a veil of radiance. I also like to swirl a bit of Surreal glow and Surreal Effect for a customized flush. While I wish the bronzer was a little deeper in tone, I can easily build the color for more intensity. First impressions are good. You get an all-in-one palette that contains your finishing powder, blush, bronzer and highlight that can be used in a myriad range of ways and I look forward to putting the palette in my rotation. Swatches to follow below.
