Dior recently launched a new collection of reformulated Rouge Dior lipsticks* for Fall 2016. The collection contains a total of 50 shades with a myriad range of colors in five color families: natural nudes, pretty pinks, passionate corals, legendary reds, and extreme/pastel mattes. Priced at $35 USD, the range includes both matte and satin finishes, along with extreme matte statement- worthy bold shades. This new shade range was designed by Peter Philips, Creative and Image director for Dior Makeup.
The new formula contains a high concentration of moisturizing natural mango butter combined with line smoothing hyaluronic acid spheres. It's also enriched with lipid restoring Lipexel which offers incredibly comfortable wear, no matter the finish. In addition, volume- boosting Decox helps lips stay lush and plump when worn. I have been testing out the new shade range for the past couple of weeks and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the formula, finish and shade selection. It was truly love at first swipe! There are so many standout shades in this collection. In this post, I have broken the colors and swatches down into two categories: Satin and Matte finishes. Kindly scroll below for details.
"I created this Rouge Dior collection so women can choose and change shades to express themselves."—Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Dior Make-up
Each lipstick is encased in a metallic couture case that is embossed with the iconic Christian Dior Logo on the top of the cap. It has a nice weight to it and each finely crafted detail is simply exquisite. Each cap's interior is also laced in Dior's couture Rouge 999 signature shade---so luxurious!
The Matte Shades offer intensely rich color payoff with one swipe that feels comfortable through hours of wear. In my experience, I was able to achieve about 7 hours of wear with slight fading in the center. A light reapplication and touch up was needed after lunch and dinner. I found that I was drawn to certain colors--such as Dior's iconic 999 signature red shade and shade 789 Superstitious Matte, a deep purple, while one color was out of my comfort zone. It's a pale grey shade called Montaigne Matte, which is typically not the color I would wear, however, the hue is unique and I can mix and match to create a custom color to my liking. I truly think that there is certainly a shade for everyone to love. You can find a shade that best suits your makeup mood of the day, whether you want to go for a classic red lip, a rich berry tone, or a more daring bold hue.
136 Delicate Matte-natural nude
207 Montaigne Matte-light pale grey
634 Strong Matte-orange red
999 Matte - iconic signature Dior red of the House of Dior
897 Mysterious Matte-deep berry
789 Superstitious Matte-vibrant deep purple
The satin shades perform remarkably well as the matte shades. They glide on beautifully and feel creamy and buttery smooth. Each color produces a gorgeous sheen that helps to enhance my lips and the finish seems to reflect light in the most flattering way, helping to take my lips center stage. The shades I tried are endlessly pretty and I absolutely love the divine pink shades in this collection.
060 Premiere -rosewood pink
047 Miss-vibrant fuchsia (this color symbolizes the iconic fragrance Miss Dior)
080 Red Smile- red-coral (worn by Natalie Portman in the Dior campaign)
643 Stand Out- vibrant orange
Bottom line, the new Rouge Dior lipstick range is quite impressive. The packaging, color selection, texture, pigmentation, and color pay off are stellar. There is a lot to love and play with this collection and with an assortment of 50 feel good shades to choose from, this is something I think is worthy to include in any makeup lover's collection.
