The new NARS 2016 holiday collection is now available online and in store. The collection is a collaboration with famed French fashion photographer Sarah Moon. I always look forward to the limited edition holiday sets from NARS, because of the great value and price point. I absolutely loved the Nars x Steven Klein Collection from last year’s release, reviewed here and here. One thing that immediately piqued my interest this year is the NARS Sarah Moon Mind Game Velvet Lip Set which is exclusive to Sephora. I purchased it as soon as it arrived at my local Sephora and I’ll tell you now that I absolutely love it.
Priced at $45, the set includes 6 mini Velvet Lip Glides. Three of the shades are in their permanent line (Bound, Unspeakable, and Toy) while three of the shades are set exclusives (No. 675, Chez Claude and Plato’s)
Details via Sephora:
A holiday set of six mini lipstick hybrid shades in a semi-matte, long-lasting finish and comfortable wear.
What it does:
The innovate Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide Set features three cult-classic and three limited-edition shades for instant, highly saturated color. The non-drying formula hugs lips with velvety smooth precision, thanks to a hydrating, oil-infused complex brimming with antioxidant-rich water lily flowers and white tea extracts. The wands feature a plush, doe-foot applicator for soft product application and flawlessly supple lips.
Colors contained in the set:
Bound (soft magenta)
No. 675 (deep peach)
Chez Claude (warm pink)
Unspeakable (reddish pink)
Plato’s (deep pink)
Toy (deep plum)

In terms of formula and texture, they are highly pigmented and feel like a hybrid between a lipgloss and a cream lipstick. They have a slight faint vanilla scent that is not the least off-putting. They do not feel sticky one bit which is another huge plus. The doe foot applicator wand makes it easy for application. One swipe, and I get fully opaque coverage without having to layer. It feels very comfortable on the lips and settles to a very soft velvety finish though initially it may appear to be very glossy and wet. I can achieve about 4-5 hours of wear and reapplication is necessary after meals.
Bottom line, this is a great set to get or to gift. I happen to love all the shades included in the set. Sometimes lip sets are a hit and miss. I end up finding a few shades that I would actually wear and end up dismissing a few. Not with this one. I think the berry and and deep pink tones are simply stunning and fall appropriate. I can really make each shade work with my golden medium skin tone. If you love deeper tones like me, then this set is worth exploring.
