MAC CHINESE NEW YEAR: Year of the Rooster Collection Photos and Swatches

Today I’m excited to share the newly released MAC Year of the Rooster Collection for Chinese New Year.* This year is significant to me personally, and I could not help but swoon over the stunning, festive decorative outer packaging which features vibrant red and gold packaging, a symbol of Chinese wealth and prosperity along with velvety black flocked accents.

The items I will be featuring today include:

*MAC Chinese New Year Eyeshadow x 9

*MAC Chinese New Year Prep + Prime Natural Radiance (Radiant Pink)

*MAC Chinese New Year Lipsticks in Peach Blossom and Russian Red

*MAC Chinese New Year Powder Blush in Fleur Power and Dame

The star of the collection is the Chinese New Year Eyeshadow x9 which retails for $32 is a limited edition palette with beautiful cool and warm tones featuring blossom inspired hues that offer a range of color combinations. The shade offerings feature textures in matte, velvet, and lustre finishes for creating a range of looks. I find that the shade range is beautiful combination of well edited colors that I do not already own. These shades are wearable for both day and night. I love that the color Print-a muted gray with shimmer can effortlessly transform the look from day to night by adding more intensity and depth too the eyes for a more smoldering effect. I love the travel friendly size of this compact and own quite a few of them, three of which you can find in a previous review here.

The shades include:

Mulch – red-brown with bronze pearl (velvet)
Honey Lust – bronze-dipped peach (lustre)
Wedge soft – muted beige-taupe (matte)
Print – muted grey with shimmer (satin)
Idol Eyes – silvered violet with gold (lustre)
Copperplate – muted mid-tone grey (matte)
Girlie – rosy-pink with subtle shimmer (satin)
Shale – mauve-plum with subtle shimmer (satin)
Sweet Lust – pinky-rose (lustre)

Next up is the MAC Chinese New Year Prep + Prime Natural Radiance in Radiant Pink, $42. It’s a makeup primer that is already part of their permanent collection, though this one comes with the festive outer decorative packaging. It’s described as a silky emulsion that helps to hydrate, prime and improve foundation or powder application while also helping to control oil. The illluminating pearl powders contained within help to reflect radiance. I find that it helps to provide a subtle veil of radiance when worn underneath. I look forward to putting it in my rotation for a beautiful winter glow.

Next up are two MAC Chinese New Year Lipstick shades, $17  that are part of the MAC Chinese New Year collection that are currently part of their permanent collection. There are a total of three released with the outer decorative packaging as part of the line and here I have two to share:

Russian Red-an intense bluish red (matte)

Peach Blossom-frosted cool nude (cremesheen)

I already own Russian Red. It is one of my favorite colors from their line and I think this is such a perfect combination. You have your deep red for a bold lip and a frosted nude for an everyday natural MLBB shade. These shades are part of their permanent range. Personally, I would pay of the outer packaging but if you had to choose one item from this range, I would go for the limited edition eyeshadow palette.

The MAC Chinese New Year Powder Blushes come in to colors: Fleur Power, a soft bright pinkish coral with a satin finish and Dame, a sophisticated blue-pink also in a satin finish. I find the colors to be mid- tone pinks that provide a beautiful yet natural flush of color on the cheeks. They are similarly both blush tones that are part of MAC’s permanent range.

Left to Right: MAC Chinese Powder Brushes in Dame and Fleur Powder. Swatches to follow below.

I hope you enjoyed this feature on the MAC Year of the Rooster Chinese New Year collection. I am personally going to keep the decorative boxes forever! If you celebrate Chinese New Year, I want to wish you a successful, prosperous, and happy and healthy New Year. The collection it is now available in store and online here. What are you eyeing?

Thank you for reading today.
