MAC X MIN LIU Collection: First Waves Pearlmatte Face Powder, Dynasty Red Lipstick, Peach Blossom Pink Lipglass Photos & Swatches

Arriving this month is M·A·C Cosmetics‘ collaboration with Chinese fashion designer Min Liu. According to M·A·C, the collection is Ms. Min’s personal twist on Chinese traditionalism and her modern take on traditional Chinese motifs. As with all of M·A·Cs limited edition collections, the collection features one-of-a-kind packaging and embossing. I was happy to find it in store at the M·A·C South Coast Plaza retail location last week. I was told it would be one of the few in store locations that the collection will be sold, much like the MAC X Guo Pei collection, reviewed here. Today I’ll be sharing my picks from this stunning collection as well as swatches.

“The legend behind Ms Min brings her personal twist on Chinese traditionalism to a mythically charged M·A·C collection. Meditating on the creation and rejuvenation of life, her collaboration features indomitable reds, deep peony pinks and misty metallics, capturing the flow of energy that connects mountains, oceans – and all of us.”

The star of the collection, in my humble opinion is the Pearl Matte Face Powder in First Waves, $40. In one word, STUNNING! The powder seemingly combines a highlighter and blush that can be used separately or blended together for a luminous finish. It’s a combination of a deep red, a medium, bright pink along with a shimmering silver. The deeper red shade appears darker in the pan than it does on the skin, while the silvery portion does have an overspray which will come off with use. I found every shade in the pan to be pigmented with a silky texture that blends beautifully. It departs a soft soft luminous flush of color on the cheeks when blended, which was my preferred way of wearing it. I found that it delivered good wear time without noticeable fading after 6 hours.

I adore the packaging and design of the M·A·C x Min Liu Lip Glass in Peach Blossom Pink, $18. The twist off cap has a tassel attached to it that gives it the perfect flair. Peach Blossom Pink is a bright fuchsia shade that delivers a high shine finish. It has a slightly creamy consistency and I felt that it translated to coverage on the lips that was a tad more opaque than it was sheer. I think it’s such a fun color for a bright pop of color for Spring and summer. It would also be great to pair it up with another lipstick or used in the center of the lips to create the illusion of a fuller pout.

My final pick from the collection is the MAC x Min Liu Lipstick in Dynasty Red, $20.  I often gravitate towards picking out classic colors when it comes to limited edition releases and this beautiful medium red was no exception. It delivers a semi-matte finish that is opaque and creamy. It’s a beautiful vibrant red. The black and red motif, along with the tassel gives it a kind of regal flair

Swatches from Top to Bottom: Pearl Matte Face Powder in Silver, Pink, and Red, Peach Blossom Pink Lipglass and Dynasty Red Lipstick.

I am smitten with this collection featuring pretty pinks and reds. The MAC x Min Liu Collection blends a bit of culture and modernity, and if you are someone that enjoys limited edition pieces, this collection is worth looking into.

The collection will be launching soon online so keep your eyes open. I will update my post as soon as more information is available.
