Urban Decay Game of Thrones Collection Review & Swatches

Feast your eyes on the Urban Decay x Game of Thrones Collection! I am a huge fan of the show and was ecstatic when teasers of the of collection appeared on Instagram. This remarkable collaboration, which was inspired by the seven kingdoms was thoughtfully curated to represent the title characters and different houses offers a full spectrum of shades that does just that. I am so excited to share more details and swatches with you today, so let’s dive in!

The Collection includes:

Game of Thrones Eyeshadow Palette, $65

Mother of Dragons Highlight Palette, $36

4 Game of Thrones 24/7 Glide On Pencils, $22 each

4 Game of The Thrones Vice Lipsticks, $19 each

Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain, $26

2 Limited Edition GOT Eyeshadow Brushes, $28 each

First up is the UD Game of Thrones Eyeshadow Palette. It is a 20 pan palette that is designed to look like a book. Once opened, it reveals a sizable mirror, and a map of Westeros. A quote by Daenerys Targaryen is included and it even comes complete with a pop up throne!

Each section of the palette represents the different houses in the seven kingdoms. Starting from the section at the very top, there are 4 shades that represent the White Walkers behind the Wall. The transformer shade is called Hardhome which is a gorgeous iridescent white. Next, we have House Stark with a mix of smoky mattes and neutral shimmers along with an out- of -the -world transformer shade called Winterfell. Believe me when I tell you that these are far more gorgeous IRL than what I can capture on camera. Next up is House Lannister offering an array of metallics, mattes and shimmers. Last but certainly not least is House Targaryen, which contains gorgeous jewel tone shimmers that regally embody the Mother of Dragons, Daenaerys Targaryen.

The palette truly has a cohesive range of tones that represents the beautiful places we saw in Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms. They also pay homage to the characters that we have all come to love. All the shadows swatched beautifully and are extremely pigmented. I am blown away with the transformer shades! They are exceptionally beautiful and add beautiful depth and dimension to the lids. Swatches to follow below, divided by each House in Westeros.

The collection would not be complete without coordinating lipsticks to bring each look together and Urban Decay released four limited edition GOT Vice Lipstick shades. If you are not familiar with the Vice formula, you should know that they are one of the most comfortable lipstick formulas I’ve tried. They are creamy, exceptionally pigmented, and glide on smoothly with a comfortable finish that feels hydrating on the lips. There are 3 shades which embody the strong women in the show along with one shade that represents a White Walker’s winter.

Cersei Lannister-metallic bronze

Daenerys Targaryen-fiery metallic red

Sansa Stark-warm peach nude

White Walker-deep berry wine

If you love adding glow to your makeup routine, then you will not be disappointed with the Mother of Dragons Highlight palette. From the packaging, to the embossing and the shade names, this product is absolutely stellar! The outer packaging has multi-colored textural scales that mimic the scales of a dragon. Once opened, it reveals three dragon eggs that represent Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal from the show. You get three new shades of Afterglow Highlighter that are effortlessly easy to apply and blend. I have been dipping my brush ever so lightly to not disturb the beautiful egg pattern. Drogon is a frosted pink, Viserion is a golden nude, and Rhaegal is a metallic bronze.

The collection also comes with four 24/7 Glide on Pencils. These eyeliners come with the exceptional formula we’ve all come to know and love. They glide on smoothly—-no tugging here—- are so long lasting and do not budge! The collection offers four shades:

Night King-shimmering teal

Winterfell Snow-irisdiscent icy glitter

Lannister Gold-metallic gold

Dragon Smoke– smoky black with a hint of red

The collection comes complete with two limited edition eyeshadow brushes. It’s yet another meticulous touch that any super fan will appreciate. The larger brush is inspired by Jon Snow’s Longclaw sword and is perfect for laying down and blending out eyeshadow. The smaller eyeshadow brush is inspired by Arya Stark’s Needle sword and is a flat brush for a more precise application.

Finally, the collection offers the Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain. It’s described as a universally flattering Targaryen red shade to give you a flush on the lips and cheeks. The bottle comes with a dropper. You can apply one or two drops to the fingers and apply it directly to the lips or cheeks. Personally, I am not a huge fan of stains for my cheeks, but I do like using them on my lips. I like that it gives a bitten lip look that brings immediate color that lasts all day.

Bottom line, I am throughly impressed with the Urban Decay Game of Thrones Collection. Every aspect of the collection was well planned and executed–from the meticulous packaging details, the shade offerings, down to the product labels and shade names. It is one collection that any Game of Thrones fan will surely appreciate and one that I will treasure for years to come. The collection will drop April 14th, the same day the show is returning to HBO for its last season, so keep your eyes peeled! You can sign up to be notified when it drops on the Urban Decay website here. The collection will be available at Sephora and Ulta on the 29th and in stores May 2nd.
