One of my favorite clothing retailers is H&M and when I heard that they were launching a new beauty line, I was I excited to see what they had in store. The new H&M beauty line has a range of 700 items that includes makeup, hair care, and skin care products, with prices comparable to drugstore makeup, ranging from $2.99-$24.99. Recently I visited a new H&M location that opened and was delighted to find that they carried the new range of beauty products. I picked out a few items to try.
The packaging is very sleek and sturdy. Most items are packaged in duo-colored tones of black and white or white and gold. It gives it a very appealing and chic aesthetic. The small H&M logo is printed on each product.
EYE COLOUR PALETTE
The first item I picked up was the Eye Colour Palette in Ready. Set.Glow. It contains nine shades that range from matte, to pearly, to shimmery or glittery finishes. I selected this palette in particular because it contained wearable browns and burgundy hues suitable for fall. The colors are beautiful and are very coordinated, however in terms of pigmentation, it was lacking. Some of the shades felt powdery and did not blend easily. I also experienced fall out with the glittery shades in the palette. On my initial trial run, I used the palette without a primer. The shadows did not apply evenly, and I had to maneuver my brush in many ways to achieve my desired finish. The shadows faded after a couple of hours. On my second trial run, I used an eye primer as a base and it helped to intensify and hold the shadows in place longer. Using a primer for this palette, therefore, is an absolute must. Thereafter, the shadows lasted longer on me, for up to 5-6 hours. Overall, I would rate this palette as a B.
Pros:
- Affordable
- Beautiful range of coordinated shades
- Travel Friendly
- Versatile
Cons:
- Can experience some fall out
- Not incredibly pigmented
CREAM LIP COLOUR
The second item I picked out was the Cream Lip Colour in Ruby Deco. This is a beautiful bright berry red shade. It is creamy and pigmented. When applied on my lips, it went on evenly and smoothly. I swiped the color on a few times to build to my desired intensity. It provided medium, opaque coverage that lasted for a good 3-4 hours. I did experience transferring after eating and drinking, however, reapplying is not an issue for me. I did notice a little bit of smudging around my lip lines, however, so I would recommend using a lip primer or lip pencil to prevent bleeding. I am pleased with its overall performance and I look forward to trying out some new shades.
Pros:
- Affordable
- Pigmented
- Applies smoothly
- Provides medium, opaque coverage
- Varied color assortment
Cons:
- not incredibly long lasting
- tends to transfer and smudge
PURE VELVET CREAM BLUSHER
My third and final pick is the Pure Velvet Cream Blusher in the color Cameo Brown. I would describe the color as a medium terra cotta pink. This blush is offcially described as a creamy, buildable-coverage blush that creates a natural dewy flush. I used this blush after applying my foundation with a stippling brush and it blends beautifully onto my skin. It doesn’t feel sticky and dries down to a powdery finish. A little product goes a long way, so I would recommend using a light hand. Once I blended it to my desired intensity, I set it lightly with powder. It lasted for a good 6 hours and did not cake or crease throughout the day, which is a plus. I am pleased with its overall performance.
Pros:
- Affordable
- Buildable coverage
- Creamy
- Pigmented
Cons:
- Small color selection
SWATCHES:

Bottom line, the H&M Beauty Range offers a varied selection of products at an affordable price point. The items I picked out are budget-friendly, and you can create a wide array of looks with the color selection offered. The two standout products for me was the cream color lipstick and the Pure Velvet Cream Blush. I look forward to trying other products from the range of 700 items offered.
