The Smashbox Cosmetics Primer Collection: One for Every Skincare Need

For as long as I can remember, I have always used some sort of base before applying foundation. In my teenage years, I only wore powder foundation, the kind that came in a compact, so prepping my skin with moisturizer was something that seemed to suffice at the time. Once I was introduced to primer in my early twenties, it quickly became an essential product in my makeup routine. In addition to now using targeted serums and moisturizers to prep my skin for the day, primer is the next step that follows. Just as primer ensures better adhesion of paint to the surface, makeup primer acts as a base to ‘smooth out my canvas’ before ‘painting my face’. Not only does primer help to smooth out pores before the application of makeup, it also helps to prolong makeup wear. Imagine my delight a couple of weeks ago when a generous collection of the Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primers were kindly sent over for review.

One of Smashbox’s most iconic products is their original Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Back in 2000, Smashbox founder and photographer Davis Factor developed the iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer to help makeup look better and last longer on shoots. Now, Smashbox currently is the #1 face primer brand in the U.S. with more than 15, 000 five star reviews and counting. I used their Original Photo Finish foundation Primer countless times, and in the years that I worked at Sephora as a product consultant, this was a number 1 favorite among customers as well as a one of our highly recommended primers. Now Smashbox Cosmetics has expanded their line of primers to offer a range for every skin type.  When you want a primer that will target your specific skin concerns, Smashbox has one for every skin care need imaginable. In addition, Smashbox has a Photo Finish Primer Oil, which is described as a fast-absorbing hero blend of 15 essential and lipid-rich plant oils that penetrate instantly to moisturize your face for seamless foundation application with a dewy, youthful finish. Another wonderful addition is the Photo Finish Primer Water which I really enjoy using. It’s described as everything you love about the original primer in the lightest, purest, most refreshing form imaginable. It’s a multi-purpose super-fine mist that you can use prior to makeup application, after makeup application to lock in your makeup, or during the day to refresh it. I received a deluxe sample of this primer over a year ago in a Sephora Favorites set and I’ve been using it ever since.

Each primer has a twist off cap and product can be easily dispensed by squeezing out a dime sized amount from the tube. I find that it covers my face sufficiently and I apply it by using my hands, gently rubbing it in circular motions until the product fully absorbs.

I’ve been putting a few to the test and  I can tell you that I  am really loving the Color Correcting Blend Primer at the moment. It has a silky velvety texture that blends effortlessly into my skin when applied. The slightly apricot shade helps to even out my skin tone and gives it a smooth canvas before the application of my foundation. It extends the wear of my makeup and I am left with a complexion that looks fresh. I find that I don’t need numerous touch ups through out the day. I look forward to trying out the rest of the range and will report on my other discoveries soon.

The entire range of Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primers can be found at Sephora and Smashbox.com. Other retailers that carry Smashbox products include Nordstrom, Macy’s and Ulta.
